The New York Footbag Association (NYFA) is proud to present the 37th Annual East Coast Footbag Championships from New York City! This is our eighth straight year in NYC! EVENT CONTACTS: Ted Fritsch (Tournament Director): 908-347-3540, yyz12428@yahoo.com; Jim Hankins (Net Director/Organizer): 732-648-7173, jhankins44@gmail.com; Jon Schneider (Freestyle Director): 908-872-6707
Event Details:
LOCATION:

The tournament will be held at VAN CORTLANDT PARK in the northern Bronx, near
Yonkers, NY. This large NYC park has several playing fields and is across
the street from Manhattan College. Both net and freestyle will be played at
the south end of the main park, near the corner of Broadway and Van Cortland
Park South. The net site will be the baseball field behind the stadium
track. The freestyle site will be the adjacent southwest playground annex
(large, paved, fenced area that we have all to ourselves). These are the
same locations we had last year.

The event location is easily accessible by car from I-95 (a few miles north
of the George Washington Bridge), I-87, and Route 9A. There’s a NYC subway
station right next to the park (the last stop on the “1” line- 242nd St).
The New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo are also only a few minute's
drive away.

Street parking is available along Broadway and the nearby side streets. Most
parking is free but watch out for parking meters with time limits on parking
on Broadway. It’s best to arrive early to find parking as the park is
usually busy and parking spaces can fill up quickly.

LODGING:

Ted Fritsch manages his own Airbnb that he has reserved solely for
footbaggers this weekend (it can fit 12 people comfortably; up to 15 less
comfortably). Small donations are welcome ($10 suggested, or whatever you can
give) to help offset Airbnb's administrative costs. Ted’s Airbnb is located
at 22 Pier St, Yonkers, NY (less than 15 minutes from the site). Please
contact Ted via phone, email, or FB messenger if you’d like to stay there.
Preference will be given to those with the longest / most expensive trips to
New York.

There are a few hotel options available within a 15 minute drive from the
park. Avoid off-brand hotels next to the site. Name brand hotels are not
the cheapest but are likely the safest bets. These include the Hampton Inn-
Dobbs Ferry, Ramada Inn-Yonkers, and Holiday Inn in Fort Lee, NJ (across the
GWB bridge).

Bruce Dole (dolercoaster@gmail.com) may also have some crash space at his
place in Brooklyn. To ask about the Airbnb or other lodging options, please
contact Ted.
