NET/GOLF EVENT
Entry Fees:
If not enough registrants for novice, $5 fee will be refunded and there will be net courts available for pick-up games.
If there are enough registrants, it may be possible to run the Advanced or Intermediate or Womens categories, in singles or doubles. If there are not enough, then welcome to Open! :-)
Registration will be held from approx. 7pm to 9pm at the Sunset Grill Restaurant on Friday August 24th. Late registration will be held on site at Jericho Beach Park East from 8am to 9am on Saturday August 25th and (*) Sunday August 26th.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Friday August 24th
Saturday August 25th
Sunday August 26th
Other Net events will run concurrently with the Open brackets.
The schedule is subject to change to accommodate other potential brackets.
FREESTYLE
As was discussed with Chard Cook. If enough freestylers show up, Chard will run a Freestyle competition at the tournament site. The number of competitors will dictate whether this is a formal or informal competition - maybe just a shredfest. This will in no way impede the progress of the Net tournament. That is to say that it may not be possible to compete in both Net and Freestyle as the schedules may conflict.
If you have any Freestyle questions, please call Chard Cook of the Canadian Footbag Alliance @ (604) 736-0384.
DIRECTIONS/MORE INFORMATION
The tournament takes place at the east section of Jericho Beach Park, the stretch of grass that borders upon 4th Avenue.
For directions or questions please call Jim Derricott at (604) 736-2716 or email jimijazzd@telus.net. A speedy reply will come your way.
----------------------- ACCOMMODATION: The following information is from 2000, so rates may be slightly different. There are no hotels in Kitsilano, but there are many in the downtown core, which is between the tournament site and Kits. ? Some sample rates (respectable hotel/neighbourhood, short distance to site): Burrard Motor Inn Single $89 Double $99 1100 Burrard St. (downtown) 681- 2331 Holiday Inn $149 two beds, or queen size. 711 West Broadway (near Cambie St., near downtown) 879-0511 Holiday Inn Single $179 1110 Howe St. (downtown) 684- 2151 ? The U.B.C. Conference Centre has unparalleled rates: $24 to $48 Cdn per night for single and twin rooms (Daily housekeeping, linens and towels provided. Shared kitchen, common area, bathroom). $61 to $121 for single, double and court suites (private bath, kitchen, TV, phone). A 20 minute drive to downtown or the airport, transit to everywhere in the Vancouver, close to student union pub, athletic centre and stores. (604) 822-1010 5961 Student Union Boulevard, Vancouver B.C. V6T 2C9 Fax 822-1001. ? Excellent hostels if you know which one to pick! One of the best, which also happens to be close to Kits, is the Jericho Beach Hostel, 1515 Discovery 224-3208. Ten minutes from downtown. $16 per night for Hostelling International members $21 for non-members. Driving DIRECTIONS from U.S.A. to REGISTRATION & Kits Beach: The I-5 takes you across the border and becomes the 99. The 99 (not the 99A) crosses the Oak St. bridge and turns into Granville St. if you follow the "99" signs (if you don't follow the 99 signs, you will be on Oak St. - which is fine as well). Keep going (about 60 blocks) until the intersection with Broadway. Take a left onto Broadway, and continue for approx. 14 blocks, then take a right onto Yew St. Follow Yew St. all the way down to the bottom and you are at Kitsilano Beach. Unless you see a good spot to park, the simplest is to use the Kits Beach parking: take a right onto Cornwall from Yew, then take the first left, and then left into the parking lot (do buy a parking ticket as they check often). At this point you will see the nets set up at the Park within view. Or if it's after seven p.m., walk one block up Yew, and ten feet right on York and there is the Sunset Grill where registration takes place.
