!! New "Reference" Section on Footbag.org!
This is still pretty new, and mostly an experiment, but please try out our new Footbag Reference Section on footbag.org!
The new section uses the same technology as Wikipedia to enable us to collaborate to build a corpus of detailed reference information on various aspects of the sport of footbag.
We'll be watching to see how this evolves before defining precise policies on user-contributed content. However, as with any user-contributed area on footbag.org, we hope our users will exercise prudence and use an abundance of caution when publishing or editing information.

!! Footbag.org moves to a new server!
It isn't anything that you can really see from the outside looking in, but we've just done a major overhaul of our "infrastructure" to support footbag.org. This change took several months of work and results in slightly faster and much more stable serving capacity for footbag.org and its related features.
If you use our spam-reducing e-mail alias service, our web site, our group communication service, the footbag discussion forum, or any of our other great services and features, you should notice a slight improvement in reliability and performance.
With this necessary work behind us, it's now time to start making other, more visible improvements. (Stand by for the new "Reference" section, coming soon.)

!! Jorden Moir in Guelph Tribune
Jorden Moir is spotlighted in today's Guelph Tribune. Jorden, a relative newcomer on the freestyle footbag scene, has skyrocketed to the top of the sport.
He placed 6th at Worlds in freestyle routines, but won the shred competition. His innovating and unique style make him a great crowd-pleaser and a wonderful ambassador for the sport.
(Good luck with your demo this weekend, Jorden.)

!! Express Your Outrage
Scott McKeen of the Edmonton Journal has really sunken to a new low in describing footbag as a talentless sport -- something akin to "hand-farts" (where you compress your hands to make a fart noise).
If you agree with us that his article was unfair and just plain stupid, please send him an e-mail. His private address is smckeen@thejournal.canwest.com.

!! Defend Kallen Ford
A young footbag player in Boulder, Kallen Ford, was given a $250 ticket last week for playing "hacky sack" on Pearl Street Mall. Footbag is a type of juggling (obviously, foot juggling instead of hand juggling). Boulder has an explicit exclusion for juggling in the law regarding Pearl Street Mall. However, some idiot cop decided to write a ticket for "releasing projectiles" against this young player -- something obviously entirely wrong in this case. Read the coverage by clicking the link above and then call or write the Boulder Police Department and let them know that you won't stand for this type of injustice. Footbag in all its forms is a safe, athletic discipline, and deserves the same respect as juggling on Pearl Street and around the world.
!! Video: 2006 World Footbag Championships
The videos from the freestyle finals of the 2006 IFPA World Footbag Championships in Frankfurt, Germany, are now available on footbag.org. See the now-famous dropless routine of Czech Republic's Vasek Klouda, along with many other well-know freestyle footbaggers. These players choreograph two-minute routines to music using a footbag.

!! In Memoriam
Footbag.org would like to pay its respects to two footbag players who died recently. Alex Cameron and Derek Jensen, two of the main members of the Northern Illinois University footbag club, were killed when the car they were in was hit head-on by a driver who was passing illegally. They will be missed greatly. (For a complete story, see this article.)

!! IFPA declared "public charity"
The International Footbag Players' Association, Inc., which runs this website (footbag.org) was just granted permanent 501(c)(3) "public charity" status by the U.S. government. This is a major accomplishment that has taken a small team of folks 12 years to bring to reality. We would like to thank the current IFPA board of directors and all our members and supporters for helping us emerge from our 5-year test period with flying colors!

!! Club List Spring Cleaning
We just updated the club list to remove outdated clubs, so you may notice a sudden (large) drop in the total number of clubs on footbag.org. If your club disappeared unexpectedly, don't blame us -- you probably changed e-mail addresses and didn't update your member profile. If that's the case, fill out the request form and we'll see what we can do.

!! Chimps Learn to Play Footbag
Chimpenskee & Blowchee
Two young Chimpanzees at the Los Angeles County Zoo have taken up the sport of footbag, according to park officials. "I can't believe it," said an unnamed park employee. "We happened to relocate them temporarily to a pen with a flat surface, and one of the park managers had left his 32-panel Foot Fighter bag sitting on the ground next to the pen. Blowchee, the larger chimp, took the bag and started kicking. The next thing I know, they were doing a choreographed doubles routine! It was amazing." The chimps were seen to hit several 6-add moves, including Nemesis and a move not yet invented: symposium double dynoing barfly. The smaller chimp, Chimpenskee, apparently invented the move and therefore got to name it the "chimperwanker."

We are slowly rolling out a major update to footbag.org. Please watch this space for announcements as we apply a new design that includes full international capabilities to footbag.org over the next few months. As of today, we have the members section (including new-member sign-ups), the frequently-asked questions section, and the what's new pages in the new system. If you update your member profile to tell us what language you prefer, you may very well be happily surprised!
