Footbag demos around Finland
We have been spreading the sport of footbag in a few events here in Finland lately. Turku hosted Eurocultured a couple of weeks ago, and footbag was present of course. Finnish Footbag Associations freestyle demo team kicked the bag for several hours in middle of BMX riders, crazy parkour people and street bands. “The crowd was really enthusiastic about footbag, and we handed out dozens and dozens of footbags. We ended up in the event web stream and in rather large newspaper, Turun Sanomat”, says Aleksi Airinen, one of the top freestylers in Finland.
Finnish Footbag Association was also asked to join Your Move in Helsinki in the end of May. It was the biggest sports event of the year in Finland, and more than 40 000 people took part in the five day event. During Your Move young people could try out several different sports, including footbag freestyle and net. And it sure was a blast! One of our key players was Anssi Sundberg: “There was a lot of people on our spot wanting to learn footbag. And we tried to teach everybody, and gave them a footbag to practise with. Shortly FFA is going to have a kicking session for these guys and other beginners, which is going to be fun!”
Because the Worlds tournament is going to be held in Helsinki, we’re also going to be part of the Helsinki-day on June 12th. It is the birthday of the city, and we’re celebrating it in an event called KesäStadi.
But right now most of the finnish footbaggers are getting ready for this weekends Net Battle, a footbag net tournament in Jyväskylä. It’s the first outdoors tournament in Finland this year, so everybody is waiting anxiously for it!
