In addition to weekly kicks all around the Bay Area, three large footbag events are coming together in the Bay Area over the next few months:
In addition, for the first time in years, there will be a footbag tournament in Southern California (Redondo Beach) on April 1-2 (look on the other side for more information).
Please help us out by sending a check for $5 to the address on the form to the right, and be sure to include your phone number if you would like to be on our phone tree. Remember, this nominal fee gives you the following:
The Western Regionals will be a benefit for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and individuals who raise contributions will receive prizes donated by the event sponsors. Entry forms and Cystic Fibrosis sponsorship forms will be mailed out in April.
Television coverage is very likely, as this tournament attracts the best players on the west coast, from as far away as Canada. This event is a must see!
The schedule isn't completely set, but plans are to have a two-day tournament on April 1st and 2nd, with freestyle competition on Saturday and doubles net competition on Sunday. There will also be pick-up singles net on Saturday.
Make your plans now -- the weather should be great, and Veteran's Park is a perfect spot with large crowds, a beautiful ocean view, and a wind-protected freestyle stage area!
The host hotel is the Vagabond Inn, 6226 Pacific Coast Highway, in Redondo Beach. The phone number is (310) 378-8555, or (800) 522-1555. Book now -- April Fools Day is just around the corner!

I knew this tournament was going to be something special when I walked in Saturday morning and saw 15 new shredders, all skoolin' the same moves under the watchful eye of the great Kenny Shults. These kids were psyched, and I could see it in their eyes. This sport is really taking off and it's good to see. Speaking of taking off...
The first circle I found myself in was with one of the game's greats, Peter Irish, and the man had done his homework. He had Blurriest-to-Blizzard dialed. One of the smoothest kickers around, Pete will be staying in the Bay Area around April through August. Another great in attendance was the man, Rippin Rick Reese -- the game's greatest. During the judging seminar, Rippin' was asked to demonstrate all the moves on the cards; he did so flawlessly and on both sides... Awesome! That was worth the plane ticket alone.
BAFL's own Tim Kelly was there letting Portland know that the Bay Area is THE place to do one's homework. I'd say he got straight A's on all his assignments. All in all, this was by far the best freestyle tournament I've ever been to. Sign me up for next year. Special thanks go out to Kendall KIC and Kenny Shults; this was their tournament and it went over flawlessly. See you all in the Park!
